In most office environments it’s required to protect your client’s personal information and/or correspondence from falling into the wrong hands. It’s always good to take precautions. Here’s how to watermark sensitive data for online purposes and photocopying. ( I used MsWord 2016 for the screenshots. Tutorial should be fine for earliest versions of Word.)
Here’s our document with sensitive data on it.
On the top of Microsoft Word click on Design.
Then click on Watermark.
You will see a brief description of watermarking. Continue by clicking it.
Let’s use the first sample of CONFIDENTIAL. Select it by clicking on it.
You can see the document is already watermarked.
Now let’s write a custom text. Repeat the steps but select Custom Watermark.
A window will open. On the Text: box (it will say CONFIDENTIAL as on the picture) write your custom text.
As you can see on my document I wrote “JOHN DOE EYES ONLY”. Then I click Apply or OK.
Click on Close.
Now we can see our custom text on the confidential file.
If you don’t want anyone making photocopies you can add some strong colors on the document background. On the top of MsWord on the Design bar area next to Watermark icon click on Page Color icon.
I picked a dark brownish-red color. This is a good color to avoid photocopies. And now we are done.
And to make it even more secure (for online purposes) you can save your file to a PDF format. Here’s how in case you want to learn how to How to save Microsoft Word documents to PDF
